Course Instructor

FNHPA is looking for qualified individuals to provide services as an Instructor to support the delivery of the First Nations Housing Professional Program courses.

Instructors in the program will be exposed to significant knowledge sharing amongst learners and will greatly benefit from the ongoing professional development from assisting to build First Nations capacity. If you are interested in sharing your housing and management knowledge and are willing to serve as a paid instructor delivering an online or a intensive course (online and in-class format), read on.

There are five courses in the professional program. These courses and their supportive lessons follow:

FNHPA Instructors must have great facilitation skills, knowledge of the topics presented and able to coach individuals to get the most out of the courses. All applicants must review FNHPA’s requirements for Instructors and complete the Instructor Application, which requests relevant information to demonstrate your qualifications.  

Requirements for Instructors

The following requirements assist to guide the identification, selection and training of Instructors.

Instructors are selected based on the following criteria and the information found in their application.

• Is a FNHP or working towards completion of the professional designation
• Five or more years of experience working in a senior management and/or leadership position
• Five or more years of experience working for or consulting with First Nations organizations
• Five or more years of experience in facilitating workshops and conference sessions
• One or more years of experience in delivering courses at the post-secondary level
• Related undergraduate or related graduate degree or (10) of more years of relevant work-related experience.

Applicants should have a minimum of three of the above criteria.

Instructors must be able to:

• demonstrate a sound knowledge of the topics covered based on their professional experience, knowledge and background;
• participate in an orientation session, review the Learning Management System and if necessary work with a mentor;
• understand the link between the course competencies, learning objectives and what has to be completed during the delivery of the course;
• guide learners (Online and In-Class)through course content, discussions and encourage participation and completion of assignments;
• share their own knowledge and experience to reinforce understanding of the course learning objectives;
• address technical and other questions from learners;
• facilitate discussions and effectively draw on the knowledge of the learners;
• spend time in preparing for the course delivery;
• evaluate assignments and discussions based on a marking guide;
• make decisions if an extension is warranted for a learner;
• make recommendations on improvements to course content; and
• refer complex course access or administrative matters to the FNHPA staff.

Instructor Application

Potential Instructors should submit the following type of information to info@fnhpa.ca in support of their application:

1. A Letter of Interest
2. Current Resume (Education, Experience, etc.)
3. Additional information on Instructor experience (facilitation, coaching, delivery of sessions working with groups.
4. Based on the list of courses from above, identify course interest and priorities

Instructor Contracts

FNHPA will sign a contract with each Instructor to cover the services to be provided and the appropriate fees to be paid will be based on agreed upon arrangements.

Delivery Information

• Online only – Compensation is on a per student basis and depending on experience

• Blended Online and In-Class - (includes a five day intensive session and two days for prep and travel) and time to handle the Online portion, compensation depends on experience
