FNHPA was incorporated on January 1, 2019. The organization was established to provide leadership in housing management activities by developing and promoting quality standards, practices, certification, and professional development to expand capacity for members and First Nations organizations. A national professional non-profit organization, FNHPA is governed by a founding Board consisting of First Nations housing professionals and one First Nations education specialist.

The idea for the organization was formed following an engagement session in early 2018 where over 25 housing professionals from across the country came together to discuss the similar challenges that First Nations Housing Managers are facing. The group agreed that a National body was required to raise the profile and capacity of the housing management discipline, both in community and nationally.

Certified members of FNHPA (those with “FNHP” behind their names) are considered specialists, who assist organizations to maximize their use of resources, strengthen decision-making, and deliver quality programs. FNHPA and its members’ successes contribute to strengthening the housing management capabilities of First Nations organizations in Canada. Learn about membership here.
