November 7, 2022, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
A simplified spin-off of our Supporting Successful Tenancy workshop, this free webinar will be delivered by Roxanne Harper, FNHP. A summary of the webinar follows:
Successful tenancy. Two words that everyone involved in First Nations housing would agree is a desirable end goal. After all, housing is a huge and expensive asset that shouldn’t be exposed to considerable risk. But what is successful tenancy, really? The fact is successful tenancy varies from First Nation to First Nation. Achieving successful tenancy requires everyone involved in housing, from community leaders to community members, to have a clear understanding of how successful tenancy is defined in their community, and how everyone benefits.
This webinar is designed to help your First Nation achieve successful tenancy, while also introducing housing staff to the First Nations Housing Professionals Association (FNHPA) and its resources, training and toolkits.
Participants will:
- Explore the significance of the application and tenant selection process as a first step to successful tenancy;
- Review how to identify opportunities to enhance a tenant’s understanding of their relationship with the housing department;
- Discuss opportunities to improve the landlord/tenant relationship through changes to administrative practices, policy, agreements, etc.
- Examine the responsibilities of the housing professional and the tenant when working to resolve complaints and, discussion options to minimize re-occurrences including changes to policy or methods of communication; and
- Participants will be asked to identify common issues that can impact tenancy;
- Referencing the issues identified by participants and using the sample resources provided in the Supporting a Successful Tenancy toolbox, the instructor will discuss how each issue can be resolved or minimized.
Participants will receive the presentations and sample resources used to demonstrate the discussion points.
