Job Description / Duties

The First Nations Housing Professional Association (FNHPA) is a new professional association committed to excellence in expanding housing management capacity for First Nations organizations. FNHPA is seeking a highly motivated, independent, and dynamic individual who will effectively and professionally provide marketing and communications expertise for FNHPA.

The Marketing and Communications Intern is responsible for assisting in the development of relevant material for the promotion, communication, and membership requirements of the First Nations Housing Professionals Association.

Given the funding stream for this position, only applicants between the ages of 18-30 will be considered. This position will be for a two-year period, starting January 4, 2022 until December 31, 2023. Flexibility on location will be considered.

•Assisting to upgrade the marketing and communications strategy and supportive actions
•Connecting with current and future members of the FNHPA
•Outreach and communication to help identify FNHPA member needs
•Promotion of and processing of memberships and membership renewals
•Providing and supporting social media activities
•Developing testimonials (video, web, etc.)
•Promoting the Knowledge Centre
•Developing the monthly newsletter and any other communications for the purpose of information sharing for FNHPA members, mailing lists and sponsors.
•Gathering relevant news for consideration in the monthly newsletter
•Analyzing medium’, or other sources’ effectiveness in terms of building a community of practicefor housing staff

Qualifications / Required Skills

The preferred candidate will have:

Education
•College diploma or University degree, or some University or college courses in a relevant field of study.

Experience
•Must be between the ages of 18-30, with a strong desire to gain experience in First Nations Housing and Marketing and Communications

Knowledge
•An understanding of First Nations Housing issues and services
•An understanding of First Nations governance, administration, and community levels
•Computer literacy in Windows environment, Microsoft Office suites and social media platforms
•Proactively seeks and shares best practices
•Fluency in French is an asset

Preferred Skills and Abilities
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Well developed planning, organizational and time management skills
•Ability to work with members and co-workers in a professional manner
•Creative and innovative outlook
•Analytical and problem-solving skills

Mandatory
•Enrollment and completion in the FNHP Courses leading to the FirstNations Housing Professionals designation.
•Youth must not be receiving Employment Insurance while they participate in the HIIY program. If they are already receiving Employment Insurance benefits, they must agree to discontinue them before starting the internship.
•Interns cannot be employed elsewhere during the internship.

Working Conditions

Work involves exposure to both public and First Nations communities, Chief and Council, Administrative and Members. Work is subject to deadlines and interruptions. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible office environment. The work will involve some out-of-town travel. This position requires flexibility to work where and when required. It is expected that when representing FNHPA, dress is appropriate for each specific target audience.
